I recently photographed a boutique hotel in downtown Nashville, TN that was recently renovated. The hotel was formerly called Hotel Indigo, but with the facelift also came with a new name “The Countrypolitan”.

A few months back I had the good fortune of providing interiors photography for another All Seasons Fireplace project. This time, the install was at a beautiful home in Excelsior, Minnesota on Lake Minnetonka.
Last week, I talked about storytelling with photos. This shoot was a perfect example how why storytelling is important. So what does storytelling have to do with photos of a fireplace? Well, how many times have you looked at a photo of a fireplace and had an emotional reaction to it like you get with a book or a movie? My guess would be never. Ok, maybe once – but probably not.
Storytelling has become kind of a cliche in the business world over the last few years, but the truth is – it does often matter when it comes to your business. When people look at your logo, or think about your business – you want them to experience a positive emotional reaction of some sort.
Last week, I featured some of the photos of the Northern Lakeside Home. From the photos, you probably have a pretty good idea as to what the space looks like. Maybe even how it might feel to be in the home? That is one of the main goals I have when it comes to interiors and architecture photography… to document the space in a way that makes the viewer want to step inside.
This past fall, I had the pleasure of working once again with Renae Keller on a modern home in Northern MN. We arrived 2 nights before the shoot as we had scheduled a scouting day the following morning. I prefer to do a scout on each shoot as it helps me to pre-visualize the shoot day and helps things run smoothly – allowing us to maximize the amount on time spent shooting.
Photography is often the last step of a long, often complicated – and expensive project. A lot of blood, sweat, and tears goes into the projects that my clients create. Photography is the evidence to the world that this project not only happened, but was well designed and thought out. As a professional photographer, it is not only my job to press the button on my big, fancy camera, it is my job to represent my clients in the best light possible with all of the tools that I have at my disposal… and the camera is just a small part of that toolkit.
